LAWTON, OK (May 30, 2014) — The American Conservative Union Political Action Committee today announced its endorsement of T.W. Shannon for U.S. Senate in Oklahoma. The ACU is the oldest and largest grassroots conservative organization in the nation, widely known for organizing the annual CPAC gathering of the nation’s conservative icons.
“T.W. Shannon is the best conservative choice for U.S. Senate in the Oklahoma Republican primary. Shannon is the candidate with the strongest conservative record on both fiscal and social issues and will join a new generation of conservative leaders whose number is growing in the Senate. As Speaker of the Oklahoma House, Shannon made it a priority to reduce the size of government, lower taxes and reduce the state’s debt. Shannon was also a leader on welfare reform, strengthening work requirements for able bodied adults. ACU PAC urges all conservatives to support T.W. Shannon for U.S. Senate in the Republican Primary June 24,” said Larry Hart, ACU Director of Government Affairs.
Responding to the endorsement, Shannon said, “I am very proud to receive the support of the ACU, an organization that shares my conservative vision of reducing the size and scope of government, cutting spending, lowering taxes and maintaining a strong national defense. The list of Oklahoma and national conservative leaders supporting my campaign continues to grow and that’s adding to our momentum as we approach the June 24 primary.”
The ACU joins a long list of conservative leaders and organizations backing T.W. Shannon in the Republican primary. Since announcing his campaign for U.S. Senate, T.W. has received endorsements from U.S. Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee, Governor Sarah Palin, Dr. Ben Carson, the Senate Conservatives Fund, Citizens United, FreedomWorks, GOPAC, conservative commentator Mark Levin, Erick Erickson from RedState, Oklahoma State Treasurer Ken Miller, 47 of his GOP colleagues in the Oklahoma House of Representatives, four past Chairmen of the State Chamber of Commerce, and 4 Oklahoma State Senators, among others.
The ACU Political Action Committee is the political arm of the American Conservative Union, the nation’s oldest and largest grassroots conservative organization. The committee supports candidates for office who reflect the conservative principles on which ACU was founded. The goals of the ACU PAC are to increase the number of quality candidates who share their commitment to conservative principles and to protect and advance the fiscal, social and security priorities of the Reagan era.
